It takes a lot of steps to make it through this life. Some of us have safe and happy journeys, some of us not so much. I’ve been told there are no mistakes and that the challenge is to face whatever comes our way with faith and trust. An impossible task to fathom, at times.
This story is about one such event. Where faith and trust were lacking, hopeless despair was all too ready to lead the way.
No money, no phone, no car… no way to contact anyone, that long ago Christmas eve. I decided to hike my way to exhaustion, and let the chips fall where they may. Who would miss me anyway…

When he was a child, the author, Mark Gibson, was struck by a car. This accident left him in a coma. During this time, although asleep in this world, he was wide awake on the other side. Awake and exploring the unimagined, and unknown places that exist in their own space and time, he feared he was lost forever and would never find his way back home. If only his Heavenly Father could hear his unspoken prayers. If only there was still a place for him in this world. As it turned out, his prayers were heard, and answered, and he awoke in the presence of his beloved mother, filled with stories and questions and worries. Who could ever tell, how could he ever fit back in….
